By Ben Greenfield It’s no secret that I am a fan of intricate, somewhat OCD morning routines. From waking up to take HRV measurements and gratitude journaling to lovingly filtering my coffee through a stainless steel filter, to performing intranasal, in-ear and retinal light therapy to using a squatty potty, an infrared sauna and a touch of Kundalini yoga, my morning routine has continually evolved as the science of beginning one’s day with an optimized body and brain gets better and better. As I highlight in my last article on my morning routine, I used to do a 10-15 minute series of yoga and calisthenic moves as the hot water brewed for my coffee: a seemingly perfect way to get the breath

By: Kim Katerba I know, I know. Everybody wants a six-pack. It's universally known in our culture that once you've got those sleek, rock hard, sculpted abs, you've made it. You are officially strong and undeniably in shape. Next to flexing big biceps, people love to flaunt well defined abs. But somewhere along the way in our fevered pursuit of the perfected washboard stomach, we started calling our abs our core. This is a big problem because our abs are most certainly not our core. And this perception that they are is contributing to a population in pain. Hear me out. When is the last time you heard of someone calling out of work because they threw out their abs? Just about never.

Yoga Talk Show - Episode 119 By: Lucas Rockwood   Eric Goodman is a Doctor of Chiropractic and also holds a degree in Health Sciences and Physiology. Dr. Goodman is the creator of Foundation Training, a system where he combines his experiences as a strength coach, personal trainer and Chiropractor to create a simple strengthening program that facilitates the body’s natural healing ability and quickly improves degenerative movement patterns. In this Show, You’ll learn: The good, the bad and the complicated of being a chiropractor. What does all this “slipped disk”, “bulging disk”, and “herniated disk” really mean? If back pain is rooted in emotions or psychology. Source: YogaBodyNaturals.com

By: Nicole Westlake Young athletes are resilient; they may sustain an injury in their sport, but with youth on their side, they bounce back faster than adults. As someone ages, injuries can set them back farther and take longer to recover. So what is missing? Stability. While stability is a well known term, it is not necessarily well applied, nor a popular form of exercise. No matter what age, stability is something everyone can benefit from practicing. Stabilizers are the muscles responsible for holding your body up against gravity and supporting joints, especially during movement. Without these muscles the body cannot move or hold itself properly. This leads to imbalanced wear of the joints and can cause pain. From a young age,

By: Daniel Lord DC Naturally healing back pain has been at the core of what I do and am passionate about. Specifically, teaching people what they need to do to take care of their backs and prevent pain for the long term. No one wants to be chained to their providers, use pain medication or be dependent on passive therapies. You absolutely want to be the CEO of your health and understand how to live pain free. One of my favorite quotes is by Dr. Kelly Starrett and he is correct, “every human being should be able to perform basic maintenance on themselves.” Enter Foundation Training. I first met the founder Dr. Eric Goodman in 2010 when he taught a course to

By: Ryan Wagner Earlier this summer I stumbled across an interesting training program called Foundation Training. I say stumbled because it was purely by serendipity. Foundation Training is relatively new and certainly undiscovered by the majority of active people. At first glance it looks a lot like yoga but Foundation Training, or as I’ll refer to it in this post – FT, claims to help relieve back pain by safely and effectively treating dysfunctional movement patterns. It was created by chiropractor Eric Goodman to treat his own chronic low back pain by utilizing a series of exercises designed to reintegrate the body’s kinetic chain. As you may expect, Goodman had me at movement patterns ( :) ) so I took it upon myself

By Casey Kerrigan Which of the thousands of stretching and strengthening exercises out there should you make a habit of doing every day? It’s important to know that very few targeted type exercises have ever been studied scientifically. Meanwhile, there just isn’t enough time in the day to do more than a handful of them. I’m fairly active. I run, I lift (not weights, just factory stuff), I garden like a maniac and occasionally decide that I should re-side the house. Even before starting OESH, when I had my “sedentary” job as a Medical School Department Chair, I’d often run to and from work. Because of this, I’d never felt the need to do any additional types exercise, except for one, and

By Dr. Aaron Burk Some people may know my story and some may not. It’s been a long time in the making and I finally feel good about telling it. This post provides a look at all of the hurdles that I encountered in my quest to get rid of pain. My hope is that my story can give someone else that may be in a similar situation some relief in knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Foundation Training was the single most important discovery that I made during my journey and it is something that I believe can help many people who face similar pain.  My journey started when I was 16 years old. At the time

Posted by Foundation Pilates on Jan 19, 2014 Dr. Eric Goodman was in chiropractor school when he developed an exercise program called Foundation Training, and it wasn’t for extra credit. It was to get himself out of pain. Goodman’s back pain was so severe he was told he’d need surgery to correct it, but that wasn’t an answer he was willing to accept. Since he had watched his own mother “fix herself” after a bout with sickness, he knew fixing himself was possible. And Foundation Training was born as his way of doing it. How it Works Foundation Training goes about “fixing” people in pain and strengthening anyone who practices it by teaching folks how to move in the way our bodies were designed to

By Devon McGregor - For several weeks leading up to October 10th, I had been looking forward to my trip to New York. And, although I have visited this great city that is home to Lady Liberty and nearly 8.5 million of her citizens on many occasions before, this experience, I knew, would be special. I don’t often use the word REVOLUTIONARY lightly. That kind of word is usually reserved to describe Apple’ iconic products. Never before have I used that word to describe a fitness modality. However, FOUNDATION TRAINING is, in my opinion, revolutionary. Created by Dr. Eric Goodman, an easy to like Californian, Foundation Training (FT) “is a series of exercises based on integrating the muscular chains of the body.” Dr.
